21 days. Initially, 21 days does not seem like a particularly long period of time. Now imagine 21 days without meat, bread, alcohol, caffeine, processed sugar, and dairy. 3 weeks seems a lot longer now, huh? Well, I'm going to find out! I'm undertaking a 21 day detox to prepare myself for what I'm referring to as a "vegan inspired diet." I'm calling it vegan inspired, because I know a true vegan would never visit her favorite Mexican restaurant in a wool sweater, carrying an overpriced leather purse, eat a fajita quesadilla (with beef and chicken) covered in sour cream, and then down half a pitcher of top shelf margaritas. Yes, I have done it before, and I will do it again. But in strict moderation. Why? To be healthy. To lose weight. To be more like Oprah (Isn't that every woman's goal?). To rid my body of toxins and start fresh, as hippie purists would say. No offense to any hippie purists, maybe in 3 weeks I'll be one too.
Doing research on how processed foods and hormone additives in our food affect our mind and body is truly disturbing, but I digress. I'm not going to discuss science (boring!) but instead I'm going to share with you my struggles and success. For instance, I've been up since 7:30 and only a mere 4 hours later, I've already shed a few tears for the Diet Dr. Pepper I haven't had. I miss it. But I doubt it misses me, it's happy at home in my fridge with the other 11 members of it's 12 pack family. They're probably celebrating the fact that they'll get to chill (haha, get it? All followers of my blog will be subjected to my lame humor) for the next 21 days with my beloved block of cheddar and assortment of Laughing Cow products (I love you, cow!). But in true Oprah style, I'm going to stay positive. Even though I don't have a personal chef to prepare the wheat free strawberry rhubarb crepes she enjoyed on her first day, I had a delightful breakfast of organic grapes and Crystal Light (I checked, gluten free!). Next up for lunch: vegetables. Yum?
